About Big Lake
Big Lake is a four-mile lake along Highway 9 southeast of Mount Vernon, ringed by homes on both shores and framed by Little Mountain to the west and the Walker Valley foothills to the east. It began as a mill and cabin lake and has become a year-round neighborhood of Mount Vernon: lakefront homes with docks, remodeled cabins, newer view homes on the slopes, and acreage with shops toward Walker Valley.
Ten minutes to downtown Mount Vernon, Skagit Valley Hospital and the college makes it the closest true lake living to the county seat. Sewer reaches parts of the lake while other lots are on septic, low shoreline sits in mapped flood zones, and dock rights vary — so two homes a few doors apart can be very different purchases.
