About Shelter Bay
Shelter Bay was developed in the late 1960s on the Swinomish Reservation across the Rainbow Bridge from La Conner — a gated community of about 900 homes around a marina and nine-hole golf course, with pools, tennis, and a clubhouse. The land is leased from the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community under a master lease, which is the single most important thing to understand before buying.
Homes run from original 1970s ramblers to remodeled channel-front houses with docks. Prices sit below fee-simple waterfront in La Conner or Anacortes; lease rent and term, HOA dues, and financing rules make up the difference.
